Midcomp installs Zünd Multifunction Cutting System at Martingraphix.

Situated in colorful Observatory in Cape Town, Martingraphix has been providing design, signage, repro and print services since 1988. From large format digital printers and vinyl cutters to a complete repro facility, Martingraphix is no stranger to the pressures of our industry.

Highly proficient at large format digital printing, the team at Martingraphix still lacked the capacity to finish product off and acquiring the Zünd seemed like a natural progression. The investment in another Swiss made machine, the Luscher CTP (Computer to Plate) system 5 years before, confirmed the quality of Swiss manufacturing and helped to position the Zünd as one of the favorites.

“We looked at two other machines, and even had one at our premises on demo, but the Zünd was by far the superior system.” says John Martin. “The finish of the machine is real quality, the ease of use and the excellent operating software makes this machine a winner. The build is really sturdy, you feel like you're buying the Rolls Royce when you invest in a Zünd. There is nothing I don’t like about the machine.”

The Zünd’s reliability was proven when a routing job that lasted 24/7 for two weeks, saw the Zünd perform with zero downtime. Hand cutting jobs that would normally take a day to complete, can be done in about an hour on the Zünd. This alone has resulted in significant cost savings and changes in their production environment.  New business has also been secured, since Martingraphix can now offer a one stop shop for all the point of sale and display items that was previously either passed on to someone else or outsourced.  Now they are more competitive with their pricing.

“Look the Zünd’ is not cheap” says John. “You're buying a Swiss product and for that you will pay, but I believe it's a long term investment, these are not machines that you need to upgrade every three years, and these last for 10-15 years easily. Lastly, the Midcomp team was great, they flew down their engineer who really knows his stuff and after 3 days of on the job training we were running ourselves. Everything took place on time and with ease.”
