A dynamic business with sustainable roots - Ledge Design & Print invests in HP Latex technology from Midcomp.

A recent interview with Rowan Michaels of Ledge Design & Print in Cape Town revealed a dynamic business man, focused on helping to preserve the environment and boldly challenging other companies to follow suit. Ledge Design & Print has a foundation built on four key words they live by: Quality, Passion, Energy and Creativity.

ledge2Ledge Design and Print focus on offering a professional brand creation experience, including graphic design, desktop publishing, marketing collateral, signage, point of sale materials and aluminium conversion for frames, stands lightboxes etc. They position themselves as an end-to-end delivery partner for large and small businesses. Fully BEE compliant, the entire staff compliment is from previously disadvantaged communities. At the core of the business is the delivery of large format digital workmanship and when the need to expand their equipment portfolio arose last year, the HP Latex printers was an obvious choice. Rowan is an ex-HP account manager and therefore very comfortable with the HP brand, R & D and the technology that has made them so successful.

“A person cannot drive down a road or walk in a supermarket without seeing signage everywhere”; says Rowan. “We all have responsibility to protect the environment and are surrounded by some form of harmful chemicals on printed advertising and branding. Every bit we can do as a supplier to reduce toxic emissions helps. The HP Latex printer was an obvious choice for us and we are not looking back. Since installing the machine in November 2010, we can position the business more favorably with companies that drive an eco-conscious marketing campaign. “The HP L25500 is a great machine that offers quality and speed without the tediousness to operate. HP has come to the party with a printer allowing us to get product out quicker and in a crisper format. Very little maintenance is needed when compared to conventional solvent machines.”

When asked about the cost effectiveness of Latex vs. conventional solvent or eco-solvent, Rowan commented. “It is definitely not expensive to run. Long term operational costs are much cheaper and less down time equates to further savings. You cannot just look at the outright purchase price; you need to take your “soft costs” into account as well when calculating ROI. I cannot think of anything negative to say about the L25500. The installation was seamless and I want to congratulate Midcomp on a job well done. When Midcomp offer service and support they do it right. Even during the festive season we managed to get consumables delivered and the team in C.T. is a pleasure to work with.”

The growth of Ledge Design & Print will certainly not stop here. Rowan is upbeat about the future and keen to expand the business to a much larger scale and accessorize further with larger digital printing technologies. This confident small business is set to leave behind large, green footprints in the industry.
